What Makes Our Solo Tours Different

The Right Group for This Journey

Solo travel to Ghana with fellow individuals who share your passion for travel and want to reconnect with their heritage through culturally impactful experiences.

Cultural Custodians, Not Just Guides

Experience journeys led by local cultural custodians who were born into the history you are here to reclaim. They will share their own inheritance, their stories, and the context that only someone who lives inside this history can offer. This depth of access changes the experience entirely. When you return home, you leave with a deep understanding and connection to the places you visit and the people you meet.

Space to Feel What You Need to Feel

Embarking on a heritage reconnection trip to Africa is not a passive experience. You are present in every moment of the experience with questions you did not know you were carrying. The group becomes your people and the guides become your anchors.

Safe & Seamless

Every detail of your journey with Protour Africa is expertly managed so you can focus on enjoying every moment. We guide you through cultural norms, bridge language barriers, and fill you in on "tourist scams". Our local team is with you from the moment you land until you depart. All you need to do is show up and we will take care of the rest.

Private Solo Journey

Some solo travellers want the depth without the group dynamic. A private solo journey pairs you with a dedicated cultural custodian who builds the experience around your pace, your questions, and your emotional bandwidth. You decide how long to stay at each site. You decide when to talk and when to be still. Everything is designed around you. This is the most intimate version of the heritage experience. One person, one guide, and Ghana.

Why Solo Travellers Choose Us

There is a particular kind of courage in deciding to make this journey alone. We designed these experiences understanding that most people making this journey do not have someone ready to take it with them. So we created a structure where that does not matter. The group becomes your people. The guides become your anchors. Most people who book a Protour Africa departure arrive alone. Solo traveling to Ghana and West Africa with Protour means you get the freedom of going on your own terms, and the grounding of a small group who understands exactly why you came.

"Coming to Ghana for the first time, safety was my biggest concern, but I never once felt unsafe anywhere we went. The team was phenomenal, and the locals are one of the most hospitable countries you can ever visit in Africa."

— JB- New York

From our Solo Travelers

"I spent three months trying to convince a friend to come with me. She kept saying next year. I finally booked alone and it was the best decision I have ever made."

— Brittany- Maryland

"This was my first ever solo trip anywhere and Protour Africa gave me an experience of a lifetime. This trip changes me in a way that can’t be expressed with just words. I am already planning my second trip to Ghana with my family with Rashida.”

— Latoya. M- Atlanta

"My colleague who had just returned from Ghana recommended Rashida and her team. She took charge of all preparations and even helped me sort out some issues I had with my flight. If I could recommend Protour a million times, I would do so over and over again.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What Our Solo Travelers Ask Us

  • Ghana is one of the safest countries in Africa, and on a Protour Africa tour you are never navigating the country by yourself. Our local team is with you from airport pickup to airport drop-off. Ground transportation, accommodation, and site visits all arranged. You do not need to sort out taxis, figure out neighbourhoods, or eat alone at a restaurant wondering if you are in the right part of town. You just need to enjoy the experience and leave the rest to us.

  • Almost certainly not. Solo travellers make up the majority of most group departures. On a typical trip, seven or eight of the twelve travellers arrived alone. You are the norm, not the exception.

  • Our travellers range in age from late twenties to mid-seventies. They come from the US, UK, Caribbean, South America, Canada, and Europe. Some are solo travellers. Some are couples. Some are parents with children. What they share is the reason they signed up, a pull toward heritage, culture, and belonging that was strong enough to act on.

  • We hear this one often, and introverts consistently love this experience. Itineraries include built-in solo time for yourself. Shared activities are meaningful, not forced.

  • Ghana is widely regarded as one of the most welcoming and safest African countries for solo female travellers. On our journeys, you are accompanied by our local team at all times, so the usual concerns about solo female travel do not apply in the same way. Many of our solo travellers are women, and we have never had a safety incident. We provide a pre-trip preparation guide that covers everything from what to pack to cultural etiquette. Several of our local guides are women who understand the specific experience of being a woman traveling solo.

  • That is exactly what the first conversation is for. Tell us what is calling you and we will help you find the right journey. If none of our current journeys are the right match, we will curate a journey that will be the right fit for you. Send us a message.

  • The tour price per person is based on single occupancy or double occupancy supplement. Single occupancy comes at an additional cost if you prefer a private room. Otherwise, solo travellers pay the same rate and receive the same experience as everyone else if they opt for the double occupancy supplement (shared room).

  • Yes. Many solo travellers choose to stay a few extra days after the group tour concludes to continue traveling with us to explore other experiences or travel to other destinations. Other travellers also use the group tour as their anchor and then spend additional days exploring on their own.

You have always known there was something missing. Now you know where to find it.
