Heritage Tours to Ghana & Africa for Families
There are experiences that change one person. And there are experiences that change a family. Heritage travel to Ghana with the people you love is the second kind. A grandmother hearing an African name given to her grandchild. Siblings discovering that the pull they each felt separately brought them to the same place at the same time.
You can read about it. You can watch documentaries. You can trace the family tree on a screen. Or you can journey with your family to the Motherland and stand where it all began.

Families with teens & toddlers
On a Protour Africa tour, your family is accompanied by local team members at all times. We handle all transportation, accommodation, and logistics. Children are treated with warmth by Ghanaians everywhere you go — expect your child to be greeted, smiled at, and occasionally swept up by a community member who wants to say hello. It is genuine.
Journeys designed for Couples
Whether this is a honeymoon, an anniversary, or simply the trip you have been talking about for years, this journey will not be just another vacation.
Join a scheduled group departure where you travel as a pair within a group or book a private couples tour, curated just for you.
Journeys designed for Multi-Generational Families
We build heritage and cultural tours for families who want to reconnect with their roots and learn more about their ancestral heritage from Africa.
Pacing: Journeys are designed to suit each member of your family. Children: We welcome children of all ages. For younger children (under 12), we discuss age-appropriate modifications to the itinerary in advance. Group size: Your family can travel privately (recommended for larger families) or join a scheduled group departure.

"My mother and I did this journey together. She is 62. I am 34. We have never had a conversation like the ones we had in Ghana. At the naming ceremony, when they called her new name and then mine, we both lost it. That moment is one we will never forget."
— Renne- Jamaica"We came for our 25th anniversary. We have travelled everywhere — Europe, Asia, the Caribbean. Nothing touched us like Ghana. Standing at the Door of No Return together, holding hands, was the most significant moment of our marriage. We talk about it every week."
— Wendy & Fred- Atlanta"I brought my three siblings and our father. He is 71. He had never been to Africa, but this had been his lifelong dream. To visit Africa at least once in his lifetime. Watching him receive his African name from Senegal & Ghana, and the joy of having made it back to the home of our ancestors. I will carry that image for the rest of my life. This was an experience my family needed, and we didn’t even know it until we experienced it."

-
Ghana is one of the safest countries in Africa, and on a Protour Africa tour you are never navigating the country by yourself. Our local team will be with your family from airport pickup to airport drop-off. Ground transportation, accommodation, and site visits all arranged.
-
Absolutely, and most families prefer this option. A private tour lets us adjust the pace, modify the itinerary based on your children's ages, and keep your family together for every moment. The heritage sites and cultural immersion are all included. The only difference is you are travelling with your own family rather than joining other travellers.
-
Both. You participate in the group activities like heritage sites visits, meals, cultural experiences with the other travellers in the group. But evenings are often free, and the quiet moments are your own. You get community and privacy in the same journey.
-
Our travellers range in age from late twenties to mid-seventies. They come from the US, UK, Caribbean, South America, Canada, and Europe. Some are solo travellers. Some are couples. Some are parents with children. What they share is the reason they signed up, a pull toward heritage, culture, and belonging that was strong enough to act on.
-
Fully. We have hosted many couples where one partner has heritage roots to the continent and the other does not. They gain an understanding of their partner's heritage that strengthens the relationship in ways they did not anticipate.
-
Yes. We have hosted family reunions with more than 55 members. Large groups are sometimes split into sub-groups for certain activities but essentially the whole group travels together, eats together and experience life changing moments together. We assign a dedicated coordinator for large families and recommend planning months in advance.

That is exactly what the first conversation is for. Tell us what is calling you and we will help you find the right journey. If none of our current journeys are the right match, we will curate a journey that will be the right fit for your family. Send us a message.
