What Your Journey Looks Like

Day 1 | Arrival — Akwaaba to Accra

Our journey begins with your arrival at Accra International Airport in Accra, where you will be warmly welcomed by your local guide and transferred to your hotel. Your local guide will brief you about the journey ahead and offer any assistance you need for the tour.

You will spend the rest of the day resting and get ready for the next day

Overnight in Accra.

Day 2 | Salaga Slave Market

This morning, we take a short domestic flight to Tamale, allowing us to conserve time and energy for meaningful exploration.

From there, we travel about 2 hours and 15 minutes to Salaga, once one of West Africa’s most important inland trading hubs. At the historic Salaga Slave Market, we will encounter the often-overlooked northern origins of the slave trade routes.

Captives from across the Sahel and forest regions passed through this market before being marched south toward the coast. We will visit the wells where captives were washed before sale and hear stories that reveal the complexity of that significant era. The journey to Salaga offers us the unfiltered beginning of the story.

Overnight in Tamale

Day 3 | Larabanga and Safari

Travel through the savannah landscape to the historic village of Larabanga.

We will explore this village, which is home to the Larabanga Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in West Africa. Built in the Sudanese architectural tradition, the mosque stands as a testament to centuries of Islamic scholarship, pilgrimage, and trans-Saharan trade. We will see and touch this mosque that shaped this region long before European arrival.

From the Mosque, we take a walk through the Larabanga community to observe their way of life: see how women in this community work and produce shea butter, as well as explore their housing architecture.

Nearby, we visit the legendary Larabanga Mystic Stone, a sacred landmark tied to the founding of the village. At this sacred site, we get the opportunity to connect with our ancestors through prayer and seek their blessings.

In the evening, after meals, we enter Mole National Park for a night safari, where elephants and antelope roam freely across the savannah. Standing beneath the vast northern sky offers a moment of grounding in the same landscapes that shaped the lives of generations before us.

Overnight at Zaina Lodge

Day 4 | Shea Butter Museum

To end our Northern exploration, we explore one of the most enduring cultural traditions of Northern Ghana: shea butter production.

We will visit the Shea Butter Museum in Tamale. This museum is the world's first museum dedicated to preserving the heritage of shea butter. It is founded by former Ghanaian beauty queen Hamamat Montia.

At this local processing center, we will witness women demonstrate the centuries-old techniques used to transform shea nuts into butter, and also get our hands busy in the learning. This experience highlights the power of women’s knowledge systems, passed down through generations and sustaining communities across the region.

Day 5 | Accra City Tour

From our Northern experience of genesis, we will explore the city that became a symbol of African political awakening, Accra.

We will begin with a visit to the final home of the Father of Pan-Africanism, Dr. W. E. B Du Bois. After contributing his quota to Pan-African history, he died in 1963 in a home given to him by the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. We will walk in the footsteps of this giant and explore the very place he worked on the encyclopedia of the African diaspora.

We will take a much closer look at the unique contributions of the man who led Ghana’s independence, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. As the leader who guided Ghana to independence from colonial rule, his legacy represents the first successful step in reclaiming the African narrative. His story and legacy inspire the unlimited potential of the continent’s game changers.

After Ghana’s independence, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah commissioned the Black Star Square (Independence Square) monument to honor Ghana’s freedom journey. We will walk the grounds of our sovereignty and snap a photo at the iconic monument. This experience affirms your place in a history of triumph, not just struggle.

Later, we visit the vibrant Accra Arts Centre, a crafts market where artisans produce textiles, carvings, and beadwork. We will explore the creative expressions of Ghana’s cultural heritage and, with the help of your local guide, shop for souvenirs of your choice to take home.

Overnight in Accra.

Day 6 | PANAFEST Day I

Travel along the Atlantic coast to Cape Coast and Elmina, two towns deeply connected to the history of the transatlantic slave trade.

At Cape Coast Castle, we will walk through the slave dungeons where captives were held before being forced onto ships bound for the Americas. This experience culminates at the Door of No Return, the final passage many ancestors walked through.

We continue to Elmina Castle, the oldest European structure in sub-Saharan Africa. This visit carries deeper context, connecting the beginning of the journey to its tragic coastal departure of our ancestors.

In the evening, we gather for a Reverential Night of Remembrance, honoring the ancestors through reflection, prayer, and libation. This is a deeply symbolic event held during Ghana's Pan-African Festival, which is one of the major highlights of the festival. It involves a candlelit procession and vigil to honor enslaved Africans, remember their suffering, and promote unity. The event culminates in an Emancipation declaration at Midnight to inspire resilience and cultural affirmation.

Overnight in Cape Coast.

Day 7 | PANAFEST Day II

This day is dedicated for participation in the PANAFEST Festival Durbur, a powerful cultural gathering celebrating African unity and diasporic reconnection. This will be held at the Assin Manso Slave River, the place where enslaved Africans took their final bath before being marched to the castles.

During PANAFEST ceremonies, you get to join cultural performances, storytelling, and communal rituals that transform remembrance into collective healing. For most guests, this experience represents a symbolic reconnection between continent and diaspora.

Overnight in Accra.

Day 8 |Free Day

This day is a free day to offer space for personal reflection after the powerful experiences of the previous days. We will spend the day at the hotel or in any way your soul desires.

In the evening, we have the option to visit one of Accra’s most popular live band music bars, where contemporary African musicians blend traditional rhythms with global influences. This moment is to celebrate living African creativity and to celebrate your milestone of fulfilling your ancestors’ dream of return.

Overnight in Accra.

Day 9 | Volta Region

As we get to the end of our tour, we will journey into the lush mountains of Ghana’s Volta Region, where nature offers a moment of renewal.

We have the option to choose between these two experiences in this part of Ghana:

Option 1

Mount Afadja & Wli Waterfall Hike

Climb Mount Afadja, Ghana’s highest peak, and explore Wli Waterfall, the highest waterfall in West Africa. The climb and waterfall experience are both physical and symbolic, a journey toward perspective and renewal.

Option 2

Lake Volta & Adomi Bridge Experience

Visit Adomi Bridge, Ghana's longest suspension bridge, to view the expansive river. We will also enjoy a peaceful boat ride on Lake Volta, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. These monumental projects reflect the development vision of Kwame Nkrumah, which continues to benefit Ghana’s energy sector. We will get to appreciate the positive impact of this visionary.

Overnight in Accra

Day 10 | Departure

After checking out of your hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for departure.

You leave Ghana not only with memories, but with a deeper connection to the land, the people, and the enduring story of African resilience.
