The Belief Behind Everything We Do

Who We Are

Why We Exist

The disconnection experienced by people of African descent in the diaspora is not just a historical fact. It is a living wound. And that wound does not heal through information alone. It heals through experience, through place, through community, through ritual, and through the courage to return.

Our philosophy is that the full truth of this heritage is both devastating and extraordinary. The history includes unspeakable cruelty. It also includes unspeakable resilience. Creativity that survived the Middle Passage. Love that endured across oceans. Culture that lived in the bodies and the songs and the recipes of people who refused to be erased.

What we offer is not just an itinerary. It is not just a guided tour. It is not an accommodation. What we offer is the person you become through the journey. Our work is guided by the “Sankofa” principle: go back and get it. Look to the past to understand the present and shape the future. Every journey with Protour Africa is an act of Sankofa.

Let Us Tell You Why We Built This

Today, we have walked this journey with hundreds of returning individuals, groups, families and friends. We have seen what happens when someone stands in these spaces for the first time. We have held the silence and shared the tears and danced at the naming ceremonies. It never gets old. It changes every person differently.

We are reminded every day that this work is not work at all. It is a purpose.

We Have Come A Long Way

A Tour guide, a tour guest and Batik facilitator having a conversation

There is a moment that I return to often. I was standing inside Cape Coast Castle, in the women's dungeon, and something shifted in me that I cannot fully explain. It was not just grief, though grief was there. It was the recognition that the full truth of our heritage is not only suffering. It is also extraordinary resilience, creativity, love, and survival.

I did not set out to start just a tour company. I set out to build a heritage reconnection experience led by someone who understood the emotional weight of what diaspora travellers carry when they arrive on the continent.

Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful and lasting impacts.

OUR CORE PRINCIPLES

The Values That Shape Every Journey

RECONNECTION & TRANSFORMATION

We believe reconnection is not a luxury. It is a birthright. You arrive carrying questions. You leave carrying answers you did not know you were looking for.

TRUTH

We honour the full, unedited history. We do not sanitise the past or romanticise the present. Truth is the foundation of real connection.

REVERENCE

We approach heritage sites, ancestral stories, and community relationships with deep respect, humility, and awareness.

BELONGING & COMMUNITY

We create spaces where you don’t feel like visitors, but like family returning home. The welcome you experience is real because the relationships behind it is real.
