History is a vital part of who we are as a country today. For those who love to learn about African history and culture, this is the tour for you. The tour focuses on how empires were built and how Ghana preserved its cultural essence over the years. We will also get to enjoy the nature aspect of Ghanaian tourism and how our society benefits from it.

Itinerary

Tour Location: Multi Destinations.

Tour begins at agreed pick up point in Accra

Day 1 – Accra

Arrival

Upon arriving at the Kotoka International Airport, a guide or driver will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel. They would also assist you with your hotel check in and preparations for the next day. Hotel Check in begins at 12:00pm The night will be spent in Accra.

Day2 – Accra

Morning Activities

Your guide will take you to exchange your currency for Cedi. For guests who prefer to use the ATM or bank, you would be taken to the closest one available to get some money. For guests who are interested in sewing some African attire, we can arrange a meeting with a tailor to take your measurements and styles for sewing.

W.E.B. Du Bois Center

The center is named after William Edward Burghardt Du Bois who was an African-American civil rights activist and later became a citizen of Ghana in the 1960s. He is often known as the ‘Father of Pan-Africanism’. The center is where he once lived with his wife and where they are now buried. It houses his personal library, a small museum with a handful of personal effects such as his graduation robes. The mausoleum is surrounded by Asante stools, a seminar room, a restaurant, a gallery, an amphitheater and a research center for Pan-African history and culture.

Artists Alliance Gallery

The Artists Alliance Gallery was established by the Ghanaian artist Ablade Glover which has over the years become one of the most important of its kind in Ghana. There are three expansive floors of art displayed in cool marble galleries. Art works by established artists, such as Owusu Ankomah and George Hughes while others are by new and upcoming artists like Ebenezer Borlabie. The art works are inspired by market, rural and urban scenes interspersed with political satires. There are also the shrouded figures and crowd scenes by Glover himself. Other art works like the Asafo flags with appliquéd and embroidered symbols, ancient strip-woven Kente cloths by the Akan and Ewe, African masks of the type that inspired Picasso and intricately carved furniture. Day3 – Kumasi

Bonwire Kente Weaving Village

Bonwire Kente weaving village is a village located in Juaben, Kumasi. This is where the popular Ghanaian local cloth “kente” originated from. It is also one of the leading kente weaving locations in Ghana. Kente is a local cloth made up of different patterns, colours and designs which is worn on special occasions like festivals, weddings, naming ceremonies as well as enstoolment of kings, queens and chiefs.

Ntonsu Craft Village

Followed by the village of Ntonso where artisan’s hand-stamp patterns on a cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles. Black-on-black and blank-on- red Adinkra cloth is worn on funeral and solemn occasions. You will have an opportunity to learn how to make black dye from the bark of trees. You can make your Adinkra sash to take home. Overnight stay in Kumasi.

Day4 – Kumasi

Manhyia Palace

Manhyia palace is the home of the King of Asante. It is a palace that upholds the heritage and values of centuries of Ashante culture. It is the administrative headquarters of the “Asante Kingdom”. The palace holds history of the Asantes since before the arrival of the British in the Gold Coast during colonial rule till date.

Prempeh II Jubilee Museum

Prempeh II Museum, popularly known as Kumasi National and Cultural Center is a national workshop for crafts, art performances and a museum. The museum was established by Nana Prempeh II and is well noted for portraying Asante culture and history. At the museum, visitors learn about the lifestyle and beliefs of the Ashantis.

Okomfo Anokye Sword Site

Okomfo Anokye Sword Site is a sacred site to the people of Asante. It is the site where Okomfo Anokye, a high priest in Ghana planted an unmovable sword known as “the sword of unity and strength” to aid in uniting Akans in Ghana. Till now, there are no records of the sword being removed by visitors and nationals. Overnight stay in Kumasi.

Day5 – Cape Coast

Assin Manso Ancestral River and Market

Assin Manso Slave Camp is a pure historical site where tourists are briefed on the slaves who were taken through the camp for their last bath and later to be auctioned before they were taken to the slave forts. Slaves who were not selected were sometimes shot dead and buried in a hole together. This is a sacred site where people believe the spirits of many ancestors reside and can be felt.

Cape Coast Castle

Cape Coast Castle is one of the largest of the castles built by European powers in today Ghana. It began as a trade lodge constructed by the Portuguese in 1555 on a part of the Gold Coast, which later became known as the Cape Coast. The Cape Coast Castle has served as the West African headquarters of the president of the Committee of Merchants; the seat of the British governor; and a school. It is open to the public and is currently a historical museum with Ghanaian arts and crafts gift shop, and it is the regional headquarters of Ghana Museums and Monuments Board. Overnight stay in Cape Coast.

Day6 – Cape Coast - Accra

Kakum National Park

The Kakum National Park was established in 1932. Kakum National Park is a home for lovers of nature. The Park is made up of mostly undisturbed virgin rainforest and is one of the famous national parks in Ghana. It protects plant and animal treasures of the African tropical forest. Trails provide self-guided day hiking opportunities where you may sight some of the over 200 bird species represented: the parrot, bee-eaters, blue plantain-eaters, hornbills, and kingfishers. The dense vegetation provides cover for globally endangered species such as the forest elephant and bongo - the largest forest antelope, as well as various types of monkeys. The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, provides a treetop view of the beautiful forest.

Elmina Castle

Elmina Castle was established by the Portuguese in 1482 as São Jorge da Mina (St. George of the Mine) in Elmina, Ghana (formerly the Gold Coast). Elmina and Elmina Castle was the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea, so is the oldest European building in existence below the Sahara. It was first established as a trade settlement but later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade. Today Elmina Castle is a popular historical destination for tourists seeking to connect with their heritage and a powerful reminder of the history of the slave trade. The castle is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage. Drive back to Accra. Overnight stay in Accra.

Day7 – Accra

Meet with Tailor to Pick Up Clothes

On day 7, guests can meet with the tailor to pick up Clothes and if there are any alterations to be done on the clothes, it would be done on this day.

Kwame Nkrumah Museum

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum is also known as the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. It is the last resting place of the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. This museum is dedicated to him to honour his dedication in liberating Ghana, formally known as Gold Coast, from colonial rule. The Museum houses the personal effects and publications of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and pictures showing his life history with some of the most famous people of his time.

Black Star Square

Kwame Nkrumah commissioned the Independence Square, also known as Black Star Square, to honor the visit of Queen Elizabeth II. Independence Square is a vast, empty expanse of concrete overlooked by spectator stands which can seat about 30,000 people. The Independence Arch was an inspiration to other African countries vying for independence and the Flame of African Liberation. The roundabout before the square contains in the center, the Black Star Gate also known as the Black Star Monument which was built in 1961. The vast area, built under Kwame Nkrumah, is designed for huge events and military marches and commercial events such as concerts and fashion shows, which take place throughout the year.

Art Center

The Center for National Culture crafts market can also be simply known as the Arts Center. There are so many different stalls selling different varieties of Ghanaian inspired arts and crafts and this is one of the cool places to shop in Accra. There is so much to see and buy from woven Kente cloth, wooden sculptures to earrings and other.

Shopping for Souvenirs

Guests who are interested in shopping for souvenirs to take back home with them as a reminder of their travels and to show where they have been can do so on this day. If you want to experience a local Ghanaian market, we would definitely recommend visiting the Makola Market which has a very vibrant atmosphere and you can find so many Local things to purchase. Tourists who are interested in arts and crafts like wood carvings, paintings and African printed clothes and accessories can also visit the Accra Arts Center or the Osu Oxford street. NB: You have the option of going shopping by yourself with an Uber or Taxi or we could make arrangements for our driver to drive you to these shopping centers. Overnight stay in Accra.

Day8 – Accra

Departure

On the last day, guests will have some time for last minute preparations like exploring the city on their own (depending on your time of departure), packing, hotel checkout, and receiving covid test results before checking in at the airport for final departure. Please note that, hotel checkout is at 12pm.
